Insurance requirements at a glance
- Private medical policy from an eligible insurer.
- Minimum $100,000 emergency medical coverage.
- One year of validity from the date of entry.
- Health care, hospitalization and repatriation included.
- Payment in full or instalments with the required deposit.
- Certificate available for inspection on each entry.
How monthly payments fit into the rules
IRCC’s current document checklist allows a qualifying policy to be paid in instalments with a deposit. That does not remove the need for the full year of coverage. A quotation screenshot or monthly premium estimate without an issued policy is not sufficient proof.
Other key Super Visa requirements
The host must meet the applicable income rules, provide a signed invitation, meet age and residence requirements and have an eligible immigration status. The applicant must apply from outside Canada, complete the required immigration medical exam and meet general admissibility requirements. Refer to IRCC for the final determination.
How long parents may stay
Generally up to five years per entry for eligible Super Visa holders, rather than the older two-year limit quoted in outdated articles. The individual entry decision rests with border authorities; maintaining the right insurance during the visit is important.
